Steps To become a lawyer in India:1) Take entrance exam (CLAT, NLUD, other Government/private universities) for enrolling yourself for undergraduate/graduate course in Law in India.* take appropriate steps to find out that the universities are recognised by Bar Council of India. ** (a) 3 years course eligibility graduation (b) 5 years course eligibility senior Secondary (12th). 2) After completion of your LLB course from the university, enroll yourself at Bar Council of any state (advisably, the state where you prefer to litigate or your home state). 3) After completion of enrollment at Bar Council, take All India Bar Council Exam (AIBE), which is usually conducted twice a year. After qualifying the bar exam, one can officially plead/represent before a court of law. ** To Practice in the Court of Law and various Tribunals one has to obtain Bar Council Registration, else cannot litigate/plead before a court of law. |

In 1882, the Presidency School which formed the nuclear of the present Institution was made over to Surendranath. 1st January 1884, he raised it to the status of a college affiliated to the F.A. standard and named it “THE PRESIDENCY INSTITUTION”.
