Annihilation Of Caste By Dr. B.R Ambedkar

This is a review, I feel much obliged to put my thoughts which some say is the most controversial, radical piece published. But to my thoughtfulness and I reckon myself to a be liberal who believes in Freedom, Equality and fraternity this is by far one of the most crucial, very deeply articulated publication of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar addressed in toto.

The way events took place and if one reads the transcripts and the exchange of the letters between Babasaheb and Mr. Har Bhawanji of Jat-Pat-Todak Mandal and also the same of Mahatma Gandhi, gives a picture of what India was suffering internally at the time of British Colonial Raaj, and how revered Babasaheb worked tiringly to abolish a conflict which more eternal than internal.

One can understand why Jat-Pat-Todak Mandal cancelled the speech which was to be presided by their elected president and before it took place, the very same dogmatic and religious belief led this conference adjourned Sine die and eventually cancelled. It was the Hindu religious group Jat-Pat-Todak Mandal that defied the very idea of caste system and were seeking political, economic reforms.

However, when learned members of the Mandal read Babasaheb's speech and how he proposed the rejection of the Shastras and if Hindu Society is to progress, its traditions must be able to evolve and how important it was to have a social reform before any other reforms and come out as a free and sovereign nation, the very religious Hindu watertight mentality led to this publication, instead of a speech.

I would like to opine that Babasaheb knew that it will be difficult for the Mandal to handle something of that magnitude as internal reform of the caste system is virtually impossible that Babasaheb made everyone realised. It is also a jist of how India went in the clutches of religious political ideology and how unthinkable it was for likes of Mahatma Gandhi to lead people of India and Usher the country in the light of freedom without carrying the burden of the dogmatic and unrealistic beliefs to which we still are in our utmost misery of casteism.

With that I would like to conclude and urge every reader of this book to have open mind and read this piece of publication in a very liberal mindset and pardon the writer as it would be at times will be difficult to rationalise this art of Dalit literature with the burden of preconceived and imbibed religious narratives a reader may have in their mind, consciously or subconsciously.
