Danish Siddiqui (19 May 1983 16 July 2021) was an Indian photo-journalist based in Delhi, who used to lead the national Reuters Multimedia team. He received the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography, as part of the Reuters team, for documenting the Rohingya Refugee Crisis. In 2021, he was killed while covering a clash between Afghan Security Forces and Taliban forces near a border crossing with Pakistan.

Siddiqui's father was the dean of the faculty of Education at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI). Siddiqui grew up in the neighbourhood of the university, and attended the Fr. Angle School, New Delhi. He graduated with a degree in Economics from JMI before pursuing post-graduation in Mass Communication from the A.J.K Mass Communication Research Centre at Jamia in 2007.

Award
In 2018, he become the first Indian alongside Adnan Abidi to win the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography (as part of the photography staff of Reuters) for documenting the 2015 Rohingya refugee crisis. In 2013, Siddiqui had secured the third position in the arts and culture category at the Sony World Photography.

Danish Siddiqui is believing in that he has privilege to witness humanity at its best and the worst and everything in between. His role is like mirror and make us a witness to it. So, we can look and stand up for the change. He always tries his best to record and bring it to us. He put his life to work in his he never sits workless whenever he listens any world event happening, he visits that place and give us so much of priceless photos so we can acknowledge how worth and best of the ground reality. He gives us ground related pictures of Rohingya refuges, Kashmir, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka's civil war and many more.

A Photographer need to be involved, he has to know the story, he has to know why it is happening. If a Photographer know why it is happening it take a better picture. Everybody is a photographer because everybody has phone camera but the difference between a photo journalist and somebody is who straight taking a picture is that because Photojournalist want to tell the story through the picture.

Death
Siddiqui was killed alongside a senior Afghan officer while covering a clash between Afghan Special Forces and Taliban insurgent in Spin Boldak , Kandahar, on 15 July 2021. His body was handed to the Afghan Red Crescent Society.

The role of Journalism in society
Journalism plays a very important role in democratic societies.

One of its main purposes is to supply voters with the information they need to make informed choices, for example, about how they are going to vote in an election.

The democratic principle of 'freedom of speech' - meaning that people have the right to freely express their views and opinions, and to question or criticise the government - is enabled by a free, independent media.

The media serves an important role in providing investigative reports, debate, discussion, background and analysis, as well as news stories.
