Filing a Complaint against Bank/ NBFC with RBI under Banking Ombudsman Scheme 2006

RBI has provided a smooth and straightforward process to file a complaint against any bank or NBFC. The procedure can be completed online and is as simple as filling an online Google form. To begin with, the complainant must keep the details of himself, his bank account, the bank against which the complaint is to be filed ready with him along with the supporting documents to sustain their claims.

Firstly, the aggrieved person must visit the web page https://www.rbi.org.in/Scripts/Complaints.aspx.  Next, click on the tab “File complaint here”. A form will appear on the screen and you can start filling up the form and so the preparation you have done above will aid you in filling the form. You will be able to upload your supporting documents in the last step.

Compensation and relief can also be sought. But the same cannot exceed the amount of loss.

Once you have completely filled the form, a complaint number will be generated with an option to download the PDF form of the complaint. It is extremely important that you take note of the complaint number, because it will assist you in tracking your application status.

It is significant to keep in your mind that, your complaint will be rejected if a case on the same cause of action is pending in the court/ tribunal/ arbitration. This is done to reduce the number of multiple claims by the aggrieved party.

Voila! Your complaint has been registered with the Banking Ombudsman of RBI.
