How Gender and generations see sexual harassment differently?

What is Sexual Harassment?

Sexual harassment is any form of unwelcome sexual behavior that's offensive, humiliating or intimidating.
Sexual harassment includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature in the workplace or learning environment,

What is the difference between sexual harassment and sexual assault? What about sexual misconduct?

Sexual harassment is a broad term, including many types of unwelcome verbal and physical sexual attention. Sexual assault refers to sexual contact or behavior, often physical that occurs without the consent of the victim. Sexual harassment generally violates civil laws—you have a right to work or learn without being harassed—but in many cases is not a criminal act, while sexual assault usually refers to acts that are criminal.

Some forms of sexual assault include:

  • Penetration of the victim's body, also known as rape.
  • Attempted rape.
  • Forcing a victim to perform sexual acts, such as oral sex or penetration of the perpetrator's body.
  • Fondling or unwanted sexual touching.
  • Sexual misconduct is a non-legal term used informally to describe a broad range of behaviors, which may or may not involve harassment. For example, some companies prohibit sexual relationships between coworkers, or between an employee and their boss, even if the relationship is consensual.

How different Gender see sexual harassment, differently?

It has been noticed that often sexual harassment is seen as gender biased i.e. only Women suffers sexual harassment , which is not false, the number of women being sexually harassed are more than that of a men. But it does not simply mean Men do not suffer such harassment. In some recent scenarios, women at the post superior than of their male employees were found asking favors or else they would loose their job.

In the present era where women are treated equally it is also important to notice the equality where she commits a wrong.

How different Generations see sexual harassment, differently?
The dozens of recent high-profile cases, including among male executives at NPR, prompted Arellano to rethink those conversations and wonder:

Are the swift dismissals happening at institutions today a result of a shift in generational thinking?

There's little academic research on the subject of generational attitudes and sexual harassment. But Arellano says she suspects the change isn't that younger women today perceive sexual harassment differently. The new generation take the work environment as a partnership, and engage differently as opposed to the hierarchical structures that old generations used to in the past, and that really is an evolution of the workplace.

Could a woman alleging harassment back then have been able to demand her harasser be fired?

Well the question here is of great importance to play a role in a generational differences, and of course back than a women might not have this option.
In Today's world both women and  men don't feel beholden to their employer. They expect to move up, to grow and if they are being harassed in any manner they take actions against the accused.
