What is cyber crime?

Cyber crime is a type of criminal activity in which computer and internet is used either as tool or target, both. This is done through phishing, credit card frauds, bank robbery, illegal downloading, industrial espionage, child pornography, kidnapping, children via chart rooms/scams, cyber terrorism, creation and or distribution of viruses and soon.

Cyber crime is a new class of crime which is increasing day by day, due to extensive use of internet these days. To combat the crime related to internet the Information Technology Act 2000 was enacted with the prime objective to create an enabling environment for commercial use of information technology. 1. A person aggrieved of the offence of cyber defamation can make a complaint to the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell located in the region.
2. Cyber Crime Investigation Cell is a branch of the Criminal Investigation Department.
3. The Cyber Crime Investigation deals with offences related to the computer, computer network, computer resource, computer systems, computer and the internet.
4. Cyber Crime Investigation Cell also has power to look into other high tech criminal activities. In addition, provisions are now made for filing of' E-FIR in most of the states.
