Cyber Crime Is A Growing Problem In The Computer Age

The advancement of technology has made man dependent on internet for all his needs. Internet has given man easy access to everything while sitting at one place. Social networking, online shopping, storing data, gaming online, online education, jobs online, every possible thing that man can think of can be done through the medium of internet. With the development of the internet and it's related benefits also developed the concept of cyber crime
.

What is cyber crime?

Cyber crime is a type of criminal activity in which computer and internet is used either as tool or target, both. This is done through phishing, credit card frauds, bank robbery, illegal downloading, industrial espionage, child pornography, kidnapping, children via chart rooms/scams, cyber terrorism, creation and or distribution of viruses and soon.

Cyber Laws

Cyber crime is a new class of crime which is increasing day by day, due to extensive use of internet these days. To combat the crime related to internet the Information Technology Act 2000 was enacted with the prime objective to create an enabling environment for commercial use of information technology. The information Technology Act specifies the acts which are punishable. The Indian Penal Code 1860 has also been amended to take into its purview cyber crime.

  2. Personal information should not be disclosed.
  3. Web cam should be used with care.
  4. Agreement should be read carefully before agreeing.
  5. Avoid free downloading sites as their files may contains Trojans.


Where to lodge complaint?

  1. A person aggrieved of the offence of cyber defamation can make a complaint to the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell located in the region.
  2. Cyber Crime Investigation Cell is a branch of the Criminal Investigation Department.
  3. The Cyber Crime Investigation deals with offences related to the computer, computer network, computer resource, computer systems, computer and the internet.
  4. Cyber Crime Investigation Cell also has power to look into other high tech criminal activities. In addition, provisions are now made for filing of' E-FIR in most of the states.


Data Protection

Information store do na personal computer would be the property of its owner and must be the property of its owner and must be protected.There are many ways such information can be misused by ways like unauthorized access, computer viruses, data typing, modification erasures etc.

Data Protection Act 1988 have done much in the field of Data Protection in today's date. Though Data Protection Act claims at protecting privacy issues related to the information.

The most important thing is awareness on the individual level. Due to lack of awareness it is difficult to regulate these crimes. Laws along with the individual awareness can help to make India less vulnerable of cybercrime. Various step shave been taken by the ministry of home affairs; meity and state government to control cyber crime. A portal namely www.cybercim.gov.in has been developed by ministry of home affairs to allow public to report cyber crime complaints.
